Chrome smashed a record recently becoming the world’s second most popular Internet browser. Its short three year life has seen it rise from to fame comparatively shorter than all other browsers. Due to the development of Google’s Chrome OS, it was unsure if Chrome (the browser) would make it to the Android platform. However, for whatever reason, it has. And it’s fast!

Mobile Internet browsers haven’t often been poor at best. They had to be. They were built for low powered devices with small screens and limited methods for interaction.  Google Chrome on Android devices is a significant step forward in mobile browsing. Chrome has undeniably earned its reputation as the fast browser and this will now extend to phone. It’s handling of JavaScript, now a given on all web sites, out performs all most every browser (only recently matched by Opera).

Merging the boundaries between phone, tablet and PC will allow us to move towards a consistent web experience on all devices. Principles such as adaptive design still require a competent browser to utilise them.

This is even more important as the age of phone apps begins to slow down and browsers rightfully become the platform for interaction on mobile devices.
