To Zune or not to Zune

There has been a lot of hype going around lately with Microsoft’s soon to launch media player Zune, targeted to compete with the ever so popular Apple ipod.

So what features will Zune have to offer the market to break the dominance of the Apple ipod?

With the ever increasing use of the terms Web 2.0, social networking, Zune aims to create a new generation of ‘connected entertainment’. Music listeners are no longer isolated individuals, rather the wifi capabilities of Zune will allow listeners to share their music with their network of friends, much like the popular YouTube video sharing phenomenon.

With a built in FM Tuner, it’s one of the added features that you don’t find present in the latest release of Apple ipods. With a notable 30gb of storage, 3.0 inch diagonal screen and a decent 12 hours battery life, Zune will be very competitive in the up and coming holiday season.

There’s no doubt that the hardware matches the expectation of ipod listeners but how will the Zune Marketplace (comparable to iTunes) hold up? Will the user interface stand up to the elegant wheel design of the Apple ipod? These questions will only be answered when the Zune and Zune Marketplace launches and we are given the opportunity to experience the device first hand.

In the meantime we can only wait for the Zune launch and see how it really compares. Keep a look out for a review on the Zune by Peter Blasina on the Gadget Guy website.
