Engaging, Exciting & Selling through Video.

Lately, I’ve noticed that a large majority of websites I regularly visit are taking advantage of the use of video. Personally I believe it to be a good medium to engage, exciting and drive sales. But why is it that video is rapidly spreading like wild fire? Is it just a fad? Like that green and yellow 70’s full pile carpet with matching wall paper which I’m sure was gorgeous at the time; Or genuinely just a step forward for online sales, technology & consumers alike.

I decided to look a little further into this. I noticed that not only retailers whom have physical products to sell were using this medium, but also business’ like ‘The Sydney Dance Company’ whom I regularly frequent, have recently integrated their site with video. I wanted to take a ballet class, however, I wasn’t sure who the teacher would be or what might be involved in the class; Clever ‘Sydney Dance Co.’ have put an end to my qualms by incorporating a video which shows me exactly what I’m up for, including whom will be instructing the lesson. Directly underneath the video is a link to purchase lesson tickets; it couldn’t have been an easier experience. Unfortunately for me, the lesson was not as simple.

Online retail super-gods ‘ASOS’ (http://www.asos.com/) have completely nailed the online shopping experience with the use of their ‘View Catwalk’ videos which are integrated into every product page.

ASOS have completely swept aside any roadblocks that may be causing an online shopper like yourself to be umming and ahhing about a particular item of clothing or accessory. How? With the use of a video of course. Shoppers can view their item, right there on the screen in colour, motion and even with a catchy tune helping the model down the runway. It’s pure genius.

The ‘add to bag’ button is directly next to the video, so if you like what you see, it could be yours with the simple click of a button.

Real Estate giants Ray White (http://www.rwdbgroup.com/) have opened a new door in the online space with their use of ‘Video Inspection’. These short films take a prospective buyer on a delightful trip through the property and surrounding area (cafes, shops etc.) all while you’re sitting in the office 10 minutes away from a board meeting. It’s a great way to show that house you’ve been melting over to your partner, friend or family member who is miles away. It is also an excellent way for agents to introduce themselves to future buyers or sellers alike.

To be honest, my opinion is that video integration is heavily making its way into the hearts of many ecommerce or consumer driven websites because it works. It works to engage the viewer, excite the viewer & most importantly sell without any effort to the viewer.  No fad.

Video is an excellent step forward, looking forward to the use of holograms in websites in the near future. Will blog about them next. Stay tuned.
