Refreshing your browser to see deployed changesAdd to My Brief

Andrew O'Sullivan | 8/06/2010

Often when we post changes to a client’s site, the first thing we hear back is, ‘but it looks the same to me!’.

Before you jump to that conclusion, it could be that your browser (or, less likely, your ISP) is caching an old version of the site in order to ‘help out’ and speed up your browsing experience.

Try these tricks:

  1. Clear your browsing cache, by reloading with the hotkey combination Ctrl-F5 (Command-F5 on a Mac)
  2. If that doesn’t work, use Ctrl-Shift-Delete (Command-Shift-Del on a Mac) to clear your cached files (images, javascript, etc).
  3. If that fails, try restarting your browser – or better yet, use one you haven’t used in a while.
  4. As a last resort, accuse your web agency of not having changed anything. =)
