Contrast in design (0)Add to My Brief

Edwin Antonian | 14/06/2012

Many things go into making good design, great design. One component that can have great impact to a design is contrast. Contrast in design allows elements to look different from one another. It also enables the designer to guide the user around the screen as well as establish hierarchies of importance.

Contrast is not just the colours used. Contrast in web design can also be achieved by:

  • font size
  • textures
  • shapes
  • alignment
  • direction
  • movement

Below are examples of effective and not-so-effective contrast.
