Microsoft opens up office documents

Microsoft Office 12 (2007) will be primary using a new document format for all the office applications. The new Office Open XML format is actually a compressed package of XML files, describing the data in every detail. This means that documents saved from older Word 2003 format in the new DOCX format actually decrease in size, due to the automatic compression of the package. This means more information with a smaller footprint, up to 75% smaller
