Google Gets Harder to Beat

The gap between Google and its rivals is widening according to an article in Business Week (courtesy of SlashDot). In terms of users and technology, it is becoming "harder and harder" for Google's rivals to compete, and there's nothing to suggest this situation will change any time soon.

Moreover, Google is entering new markets, developing content and functionality far from its core of search: finance and news portals, email and productivity applications, shopping and mapping technology to name a few, all in the name of advertising.

Google has gained 6.8% percent market share over the past twelve months to command 51% of the US search engine market; its dominance extends far further, especially with its AdWords network.
