Christmas Spike Traffic to Shopping WebsitesAdd to My Brief

Daniel Nelson | 18/09/2009

A common consideration for Ecommerce businesses is how and when to target their Christmas customers. Seasonal traffic details outlined in recent Neilson data can help with the “when”.

These figures clearly illustrate a surge in traffic to online shopping websites in the lead up to Christmas. For example in the lead up to Christmas 2008 traffic in October to ecommerce websites was 6.76Million unique visitors, these numbers surged to 7.16 Million in December and even reached 7.24Million in January as shoppers took advantage of the post Christmas/new year sales.

Regardless of whether this traffic is converting into online sales or represents pre shop research, this explosion in traffic represents an opportunity to adapt and cater for Christmas shoppers and researchers alike.
