Blog Ideas to Drive Traffic

One of the most often-asked questions about blogs is; “What should I write about?”

There is a marketing adage that says that people don’t want to be ‘sold to’ – they want to be ‘communicated with’. A blog is the perfect platform to have this conversation with both existing and potential customers.

But in order for them to read it, they have to find it. Blog topics should not only address the interests of the audience and establish you as a voice of leadership; they should also make the blog itself more visible to Search Engines.

The first approach is to write on what you are known for. Research what phrases and keywords readers are already using to find your site, and write to those topics. Be sure to use those words as often as possible in your posts to continue to build the flow of traffic to your blog.

For example, if you find that 100 visitors found your plumbing site based on combinations of the words “Antique Copper Pipes” then a series of about them would apt not only to be popular, but responsive.

The next approach is to write to what your competitors are known for.  Research phrases and keywords that drive traffic to your largest competitors and address them in your blog.

Do this consistently, repeating the keywords in the tags, title, and body of the blog and over time this will bring that traffic to your door instead of someone else’s. The important point to remember, however, is that to keep that audience your blog must offer real value with its posts.

Finally, write what interests you. Nothing replaces bona fide enthusiasm when it comes to attracting an audience. Your keenness for a topic will draw in readers and build their interest in the blog.  There is much manufactured content on the Web, and savvy visitors are much more likely to get hooked on a blog that highlights the  genuine interest of the writer.

Finally, remember that the stats, feedback, and comments you receive will be the most reliable indicator for future blog topics. As the blog grows over time, its audience will be clear in what resonates with them. This is the best idea factory you can look to for ideas.
