The Design FashionistaAdd to My Brief

Stuart Horton-Stephens | 4/06/2010

As designers we are expected to dress, talk and act in a particular way. Apparently. History tells us that to stand tall amongst the common people, designers (be they online, print or otherwise) we must don skivvies, scarves and black horn rimmed glasses, drive gun metal grey Saabs and park a sky blue Vespa in our arctic white car ports.

Well, I work and have worked with a number of designers, pretentious gits and not. And they are all proud of what they do and what they achieve. And yet they don’t present themselves in the way I have just described. So where is this myth from? Which boring homophobe, suburban slob, narrow minded heathen decided to coin this string of curious misgivings upon us? Was it someone in accounts? One of the producers perhaps? O, hold on...those developers seem awful quiet of late.

p.s. I wear a scarf because it is warm. And the ladeez luv it. And my socks match my undies.
