New Facebook Privacy SettingsAdd to My Brief

Daniel Wright | 14/12/2009

You may not have heard but Facebook is in the process of rolling out a series of changes to the privacy settings for users accounts. The changes are part of an initiative from Facebook to make it simpler for users to configure their privacy settings for every item added to a user’s profile.

So far the changes have been met with mixed reactions from users and privacy advocates. On the one hand many applaud Facebook’s attempt to make it simpler to configure a user’s privacy settings but many fear that in doing so, users have lost some of the strictest options as Facebook simultaneously encourages users to share pretty much all of their data with somebody. This is because Facebook is offering suggested privacy settings as part of the new privacy rollout.

In any case, it’s a timely reminder that all web users with a Facebook account should turn their attention to their privacy settings and make sure that they’re sharing their data appropriately with their extended networks.
