All IE’s Aren’t Created EquallyAdd to My Brief

Guy MacArthur | 10/08/2009

As a developer one of my responsibilities while working on a site is to ensure that everything looks as it should on many different web browsers. When I say different browsers that includes different versions of browsers. Currently, there are 3 versions of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer that dominate browser usage worldwide. Those are IE 6, 7 and 8. And unfortunately, they like to show the same web sites slightly, and on occasion drastically, different.

On a normal installation of Windows you can run only one version of Internet Explorer at a time. This leads to difficulties when trying to compare the rendering differences between the different versions of IE. A great tool for handling this issue is IETester. With IETester you can compare the way your site renders in different Internet Explorer browser versions, all in the same application.

Beware, it’s currently in alpha testing, but it’s much more stable than some final release software I’ve ran.
