Upgrading Umbraco

One of the trickiest issues when working with Umbraco is upgrading.  It feels to be more art than skill some days.  There are some standard practices you want to follow when doing any upgrade.  

Backup… everything! Next, try and follow the recommendations in the general upgrade documentation, found here

However, sometimes you’re making the leap from a fairly old version and need a bit more hand holding as you upgrade.  Usually, this uncertainty stems from knowing that you can’t always just leap up to the latest major release, and sometimes, even moving up to a minor release can cause grief.  The version specific upgrade documentation is a (project) life saver

Lastly, if none of that helps you, be sure to search for advice on the Umbraco forums. Umbraco really does have a knowledgeable and helpful culture, and more than likely, quite a few people have gone through the same issues you’re having.
