Designing in the mobile era
We all strive to uncomplicate our life. We want to make things more simple or easier. I'm doing it now. I started by cleaning out my closet, giving away old clothing and reducing down the amount of items I own. I'm even moving closer to work to make life a bit easier.
So what does this have to do with Designing in the mobile era?
Well, like life we need to simplify our online experiences by removing items that are not necessary.
Why?
Because it's a necessity in our increasingly oversaturated online world. Simplification will create a better online customer experience. The other reason is that there is a huge increase in web access via mobile sites, this trend will not abate.
How do we achieve web simplicity?
Well one idea is Mobile First, whereby companies organise their business around the mobile as their primary user channel and then design their desktop experience around this. This can simplify not only the design but the whole UX.
Where to from here
- Start by looking at your site traffic to understand what your customers value and what they can do without.
- Keeping testing and refining your website. Similarly to other marketing material, a website needs to evolve as your business does.
