Android devices overtook iOS devices for the first time in Australia last year and, in total, the devices numbering over 10 million. Now developers have a more difficult decision of whether to develop an app for iOS, Android or both.

Here are a few key things to think about when making this decision:

iPhone users are slightly younger and generally more affluent

iOS users are slightly younger than Android users. Having said that, Android users are also younger than mobile users on the whole. The biggest difference is the average household income, with iOS users on average being considerably better off. With iOS devices costing more than Android devices, this is no real surprise.

Android and iOS users engage differently with mobile content.

iOS users are more likely to engage in all major content categories than Android users. More likely to use things like social media on a daily basis, more likely to access news and more likely to visit online retail sites. Whilst iOS users are more likely to engage on average, Android has a greater number of users in each category. Are you more concerned about engagement or reach?

IOS users are more likely to engage in M-Commerce

Here, iOS users show a considerably greater desire to engage in an M-Commerce transaction and do so more often.
