Google Moon and Mars

Google Earth has been around for a while and most of us have played with and enjoyed the features it offers. There has been alot of work put into modelling cities and landscapes allowing avid users to explore parts of the world in a 3D virtual reality. However, not many know about Google Moon or Google Mars. Google have expanded into many many areas, and it shouldn't be a shock that they essentially creating a map of the moon and Mars. Although lacking features like street view, at the rate humanity is pushing technological boundaries, I'm sure most of will see this and more in our life time.

 

Comprised of satellite imagery (some very detailed) and integrated with elevation data, Google Moon lets us explore the moons surface in 3D. Although the experience won't let you live and breath the craters and canyons on the moon, it does give you a persective of the scale of the tasks set upon by the first people on the moon. Similary, Google Mars shows off (less detailed) images of Mars' surface. Check them out today and see what it was like for the astronauts or the Mars rover.
