Custom Builds require Custom Maintenance

If you had a handbuilt, highly-customised and purpose-engineered race car you probably wouldn’t expect to take it down to any old mechanic to have it worked on and maintained. If you wanted to keep your racing machine in top condition, you’re more likely to take it to someone who knows performance. The odds are pretty good you’ll take it back to whomever built it for you in the first place.

The same principle applies to any truly custom work. The more customised something is, the more likely it is that it will need custom maintenance. Like most technologically driven industries, the web is full of projects that are quickly overtaken by new innovations and new opportunities for performance gains. Unfortunately not every new technology is going to fit straight into your custom build.

Sometimes when building a car you’ll need to move the firewall a couple of inches either way to make room for the new transmission you’re putting in. Sometimes you’ll need to cut some space to fit your modified suspension. Sometimes you’ll need to build a new, one-of-a-kind part to get the job done.

Custom websites are just like this. There are a lot of them that are similar, but no two are the same. Each one is likely to come with several truly unique parts that require special attention when they’re created – and these parts will also need ongoing maintenance as they continue to perform in ways that standard parts just can’t.

Of course, you might get lucky if you let the guy at the local garage tinker with your finely tuned race vehicle. But why would you risk something that you cared enough about to have quality, custom work done on it in the first place?
