Your New Year’s Resolution for 2009

The New Year is here. You may have made resolutions in your personal life but have you made any resolutions for your business? Here are a few you may want to consider adding to your list:

Improve the Quality of Your Site
The days of keyword loaded content are quickly going by the wayside. Google is aggressively modifying their algorithm on a regular basis. With each revision they are closing the keyword loophole with the ultimate goal of rewarding truly great content. In the near future, this will be the key to climbing the Google ranks. Of course quality content has an added bonus; it is much more likely to attract and retain users.

Optimize for Mobile Users
The mobile market is on a steady rise with no end in sight. Users want sites that are easy to navigate and easy to view on their mobile device. If your site can’t provide this they will find a competitor who can. Now is the perfect time to begin the optimization process.

Invest in Social Media
Do you have a blog? If not, it’s time to seriously consider an investment. Blogs are a great first step into social media. If you’ve already invested in a blog, why not expand your social media investment further? Consider creating a presence on popular social networking sites such as Facebook. If you have the resources to create more robust media, both videos and podcasts are excellent way to expand your influence.

Increase Your Conversion Rates
Increasing conversion rates should be a continual goal. If your site isn’t a traditional e-commerce site you can still increase conversion rates by increasing subscribers. To monitor your success you should evaluate your website statistics regularly. There is a wealth of information that can be gained from these metrics.

Participate in Your Industry’s Community
It isn’t wise to assume everyone will find your business through advertising and search. If you wish to be seen as an expert in your industry you must participate in the community. Find the top online forums in your niche and become a regular contributor. Post comments on related blogs. No matter where you contribute remain professional and ensure you include a link to your website in your signature.
