What are the most expensive search keywords?Add to My Brief

Robert Beerworth | 20/10/2009

The latest AdGooRoo report into Search Engine Advertising is an interesting read into the current state of search advertising.

And the most expensive search keywords?

In Google, it’s Mesothelioma at $99.44. Mesothelioma is a form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos, and the bidders are law firms looking to build class actions.

In Yahoo, it is the same thing, though at $60.68.

In Bing, the most expensive search term is Auto Insurance Comparison at $55.20.

Unfortunately, the report doesn’t elaborate on how many times each of these terms are clicked, though in respect to Mesothelioma, the less, the better.

The report also cites a few other notable trends:

  • The average CPC (Cost Per Click) will remain flat through 2010, and the most expensive words list will shuffle and change.
  • Travel dominated search advertising in Q1 while retail is dominating in Q4.
  • In September, the respective search engines served an average of 5 to 6 ads per keyword.
