‘Design’, be it web, fashion, print, industrial or otherwise, as a practice is a fickle business. Based on the subjective eye of the creator and ultimately the viewer, design is an ever evolving aspect which is hard to control and even harder to let wander by itself. Trends come and go, designers pick up on them and go with the designer flow. And alot of them keep going until the style is all but used up and ‘so last year’.

The achievements are evident in the many sites Wiliam has launched. Big brand sites like Dan Murphy’s and Dick Smith, the explosive success of Cudo (built and launched in 6 weeks), the recent Choosi.com.au, Australia’s biggest grass roots political site GetUp.org.au and fund raisers like the NBCF are all stand outs.
There were though, of course, some lessoned learned (and they are much more interesting to write about it) Here are just five of them.

Leo Romano | 5/09/2011
The release of the iPad in April 2010 brought about a revolution for those who wanted to browse the web on the go. A couple of years later and the tablet market is well and truly established, with sales topping 20 million in 2010 alone and expected to quadruple by 2012. This has posed a challenge for corporations, business and web design firms alike, having to ensure websites looked equally good on a full size computer screen as well as on a potentially much smaller tablet.

Rounded corners are more aesthetically appealing than jagged edges to everyone, but these days most people don’t even think twice about why this might be so. Designers use rounded corners so often that they are more of an industry standard than a design trend. They’re not only being used on user interfaces, but hardware product designs as well.

Patrick Wong | 30/10/2008
