Virtual Desktop for the Oculus Rift is a taste of the future

To date, Oculus Rift, the wildly popular next-gen virtual reality headset, has been all about gaming and entertainment.  Games like EVE Valkyrie, Elite: Dangerous, Star Citizen and many others either have support, are actively developing support or plan for it.  Many other companies are working on their own VR devices or support as well.  Big names like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Samsung, Razor, Steam … a seemingly endless list really.  All this comes down to VR being the (very near / pretty much here) future.

A project, in the latter beta release stage, that unlocks the Windows desktop to VR is Virtual Desktop.  With it you’ll be able to do all the things you do now on your PC like writing emails, browe the web, online shopping, watch videos (hello Netflix) … all the things you currently do.  Basically, it replaces your monitor, and the potential for that is amazing.  Being able to potentially change your setup from working with one screen to two, three or more virtual screens is incredible and that's just the beginning.  A virtual office, that's where we're heading, all in the headset, and space is no longer a constraint.

Oh… and it still plays games.  Winning!
