Treat your online audience with respectAdd to My Brief

Stuart Horton-Stephens | 19/10/2010

Before starting on your site, you should understand and know your online audience.

And its an assumption at this point that you do.

Once you’ve worked it out, try putting yourself in their shoes and visualise what they would want to see on a web site. No matter what you have read on web psychology 101, if your audience requires a subtle approach to their online goal, give it to them. Don’t ram ‘key information’ down their throats because you’ve read it may make you an esale.

It ‘may’ in the short term, but in the long term your audience will dwindle to the few that have merely chanced upon your information. Treat your viewers with respect. Be they lowest common denominator or super brilliant and engaged humans, show them respect by giving them the information they are seeking, not what you have read or assume they are seeking.

Show them respect and you will reap the benefits, and enjoy the respect they hold for you.
