Google Wave to go the way of the Dodo

Remember GoogleWave?  Tried it and liked it, or like many, still can’t really describe where it fits in our web-centric lives?  Well, Google has officially announced it’s pulling the plug at the end of the year.

Google’s claimed to have gained from the project on a whole.  Some of the features have made it into other Google products and I’m sure we’ll see a little bit of Wave in future projects.  For those of us who have used Wave and would like to hold on to some of that data, tools will be made available to export that data from Wave.

I personally liked the concepts and ideas in Wave, but I think it suffered an identity crisis early on and few could wrap their heads around what it was good for.  Google has stated that the little guy couldn’t get a decent number of users to justify its existence (Orkut, your days are numbered).
