A/B Split Testing your website, application or emailAdd to My Brief

Robert Beerworth | 20/08/2010

A/B Split Testing is an old, yet powerful concept.

Take two or more versions of the same web page, form, message or whatever and then randomly serve one of the versions to each user.

Different users see different versions and will react differently.

Measure which version performs the best – most completed forms, purchases, click-through etc – and there is your answer.

We’re increasingly using A/B Split Testing across our client websites and emails, and it is rare that the investment in time (and a bit of extra design, copy and maybe a different form) doesn’t pay off.

A colleague sent me a great website – Which Test Won (www.whichtestwon.com) – which gives a great comparative view of how A/B Split Testing works, using real word examples.

After examining the different examples, you can vote to test your knowledge of which example performed better.

If anything, it will very quickly improve your understanding of what makes a web page perform!
